Most surgical knots in skin and soft tissue reconstruction are tied using an instrument tie. After learning it, you will be able to use it on almost every suture technique you will encounter. This is usually the fastest approach and also affords the least amount of suture material waste. Hand tying, using either one or two-handed ties, may be used rarely in cutaneous surgery and reconstruction, and will not be addressed here in detail. This video shows you how to properly perform a surgeon’s knot using the “instrument tie” technique.
